I feel lost being the only Nikon shooter in this thread...BUT! I shot two weddings recently using a Nikon D50, and numerous primes (20mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.4 - my fave, 105mm f/2DC and the 180mm f/2.8). Yes! I'm a prime guy - Good to know Jess is prime shooter too.

BTW, those weddings were my first two weddings ever - and I was only an assistant for the first one, and the big brother for the second.

When it comes to bodies vs. Glass, get the glass. Bodies come and go, good glass lasts. I would guess the 30D is in the same ballpark as the Nikon D200, so I can't see why the 30D wouldn't be good enough for a while longer. Besides, I've seen stellar images taken with the 20D and the 135mm f/2L USM.

Olek....I have owned the 24-70 L 2.8, but sold it!

Alicia....ha!!! ;)

Suzie....tough question. I've never shot on the 30D, so I don't know if the image files are close enough to a 5D to tell you to hold off and go with the lens....

I always say that glass is MOST important, so I will stick with that....

If I had used the 30D, though...I MIGHT have a different opinion!

Anyone who owns the 30D wanna chime in....

Question for someone just starting out on a budget: I have a 30D and use 24-70 L and 85mm L primarily. Should I upgrade to a 5D and hold off on 70-200 L IS or get the 70-200 L IS and use it on my 30D for the meantime? Can't afford a 5D and the 70-200 all at once. Any advice would be appreciated!!!

what were you using before the 50 1.2? Did you have the 50 1.4?
I am trying to decide which to buy and there certainly is a HUGE difference in price between the two.
I'd love the 50 1.2 but it's quite costly.

Justification for a 3rd 5D: charitable gift of a dream camera to a budding young photographer! lol.

Totally drooling over these lenses though.

Hey! If you get to know if they have any specials on camera, would you mind letting me know. I need one extra camera. Regarding lens, I got 85 1.8 (can afford 1.2 yet) and it is so sweet. Just yesterday got my 100 2.8 macro. Sweet! Cool ring shots are coming. I own 70-200 2.8 IS L too and I like it too. I am not sure if you need 135 then, except it is lighter then 70-200. But it is up to you. I was shooting with 16-35 2.8 before. I might get it some day. You might need 24 1.4 for dark receptions or such. I am not much wide angle shooter, but like to get extreem some time. I use my 24-70 2.8 for that. Do you own one?
