I know I’ve been talking about albums alot…but I guess in all of that, I’ve somehow missed mentioning my actual album company…because I’ve been getting lots of emails about it!! LEATHER CRAFTSMEN!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Leather Craftsmen! They are truly wonderful, produce fantastic products, have quick turn around time and awesome customer service!

On a side note, I know alot of you think I just LOVE everything and everyone because I’m always talking about how much I love everything, but I assure you, that is NOT the case!

My last album company was an absolute NIGHTMARE to work with and I’ll openly tell you about it if you like…so please trust that my words are credible and I’m basing what I tell you off of the experiences I’ve had!

Ok, so anyway, I use the 3500 flush mount series albums! They are great albums because they are very classic & clean with simple lines, yet are modern and stylish!! I’ve mentioned how I don’t like alot of FLUFF on anything or excessive “pretty” stuff….I think timeless, simple stuff is best and the 3500 series is EXACTLY that!!!

They also have GREAT cover treatment options!!! I recently discovered that I LOVE the cowhide leather options!! I was reeeeeally into the suede for a while!! I LOVE the suede…especially in the celadon, apricot, mushroom, & solar yellow…but I’m on a cowhide kick right now!! I got an album in the cowhide and it was GREAT!!! Shiney and modern…and SLICK!! The font looked perfect with the sleekness of the album!! LOVED IT!!! Check it out!! And if you aren’t a huge fan of your album company, CALL LEATHER CRAFTSMEN!!!!

I really like your work. You are one of the very few wedding photographers that actually has a style, and it is an awesome one.
I do have one question, if you don’t mind. Do you use the 3500 with or without the center cut?

I tried getting ahold of these bozos, and they wouldn’t touch me with a cattle-prod (cowhide? cattle-prod?….a little brevity LOL) because they couldn’t verify I was a professional. IMO, If I shoot someone’s wedding, and they’d like a wedding book, I’d love to sell them on the Leather Craftsmen 3500 series. I love their look and feel. …but cripes, if they don’t want to throw me a bone, I’m not sure I want to deal with them further down the road. Is this company brimming with arrogance? I have a hard time trying to figure out what they have to lose selling a wedding book to a part-time wedding photog.

BTW, what software does LC use for page layout, and what are their file requirements….since they refuse to discuss anything with, any info would be genuinely appreciated. :)

Thanks,

c

Hi Guys!! Thanks for your comments…

Danielle….thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate them soooo much! :)

BQ…I use the 3500 with a center cut! I hear that the “fold” isn’t recommended because of discoloration over time, so I do the cut…and just deal with the 1/8 inch gap in the middle.

Craig….your comment made me realize that I left something out!! I would *BET* that you contacted the New York branch!? Am I correct???? I forgot to mention that I would STRONGLY recommend working with the California branch because I do not get the best feeling from the New York branch! They definitely strike me as being arrogant and like they don’t have time for your questions. I called California and they were nice and helpful…and answered all of my questions before starting and now I request that all of my albums be done in California for that reason. They also contact me if they have ANY questions at all about an album and that is helpful because I’ve had lots of albums ruined because the album company assumed that a shot went a certain way…and it didn’t. So, I would recommend contacting the CALI branch and TELL THEM that you were VERY turned off by the treatment from the other branch. If you called Cali, then I’m really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience!! I fully agree that they are crazy to turn down any business, no matter how big or small…it’s still business!

Not sure about their software for paage layouts! I send finished prints to them for binding! Sorry!

I definitely have to throw my honest opinion in here - LEATHER CRAFTSMEN ROCK!!! I started with them on my very first wedding and never looked back. Excellent customer service (VERY IMPORTANT IMO) and truly beautiful products. I actually do work with the New York branch and have never once had a problem. Everyone is very friendly and they take care of things ASAP!! I used to live in NYC and I kind of like calling and hearing that old NYC accent:-)

Craig - I am surprised they would not let you sign up. I would give them a call and ask again. I did not have a problem when shooting only one wedding but the policy could have changed since then I guess. Nonetheless it is a great company and I hope that you are able to have a album made by them.

jess, you may have answered this but do you let them print or do you print at your lab and mail them the print to mount in the book?

I have worked with the East Branch and things have been great. They have been great about calling me if there are problems etc.
Jess, can you give a heads up on your issues with the East location???

Finally got a hold of Leather Craftsmen. I applaud their caution with regards to non-photog consumers. I can’t fault them one bit, so Bozos was a bit over the top.

Jess, have you seen their Weave covers? I LOVE LOVE LOVE ‘em. LOL
