Hi! 🙂 I’m back after having the most special weekend in DC!!!! My very very dear friends who I love soo much were married and it was one of those times that really makes you reflect on life and be soo grateful. I will be sharing the wedding pics with you shortly….I’m excited! In the meantime, I’m finding myself in a very reflective, joyful, grateful kind of mood in general. You know when the seasons change and the air is crisp, you’re drinking a carmel apple cider from Starbucks…and you hear a great song and the sun is shining. You can’t help but be grateful to be alive. I was flying back and had a pretty rough time at the airport…I hate Dulles and the fact that you might as well asked to be strip searched multiple times simply because you are carrying a fancy camera…but that’s beside the point. So, I literally fell into my seat on the plane….excited about sitting in one spot for over an hour after standing for nearly three! I couldn’t take any more noise so I pulled out my ipod and found a great spot between the seat and the wall to put my head. The plane took off…under rainy, cloudy skies. I shut my eyes and hit play. A song came on…and one of my favorite things happened. It’s that moment on a plane when you break through the clouds up to the glorious, peaceful, sunny place above the rain clouds. The warm sun hit my face…i love it when that happens….and as I sat there, slightly exhausted but wanting to soak in every moment of this great blurp in time, I just was soo happy to be alive and feeling the sun on my face….and having a new favorite song that was perfect for that moment. The song is the Riddle by Five for Fighting. I was reflecting on the weekend and how much it mean’t to me…..and how many things there are in life to be grateful for. Just then the flight attendant walked up and completed the perfect moment…with a hot cup of coffee! Mmmmm. Then I dozed off to sleep and awoke to the “welcome to Indianapolis” announcement…which I love…makes me feel all warm & fuzzy to hear that when I arrive at home, where my husband & family are….my favorite city. I got of the plane and was greeted by my wonderful husband. He took me to a fantastic dinner at Bonefish! Mmmmm…..Isn’t life grand! 😉 Go listen to the song….it’s great. 🙂

  1. hi Jessica,

reading your post made me imagine all the details of traveling. I could just sink into your words and dream for a while. And actually for a moment, it felt so real. Your personal “stories” are getting better and better. Thanks for sharing and keep on writing! Looking forward seeing your images.

  2. hi jess. nice write up! 😉 i have experienced this same thing. of course, for me, it usually happens with U2’s Where the Streets Have No Name. the perfect song for flying and breaking through the clouds. of course, that segues very nicely into I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and With or Without You and on from there on the Joshua Tree album. all the atmospherics in that album are perfect for the “lighter than air” feeling. 🙂 the only downer of course is Bullet the Blue Sky. not exactly what you want to think about while you’re flying.

  3. by the way, angele and i had carmel apple ciders from starbucks after the wedding i helped her with on saturday. they’re like drugs aren’t they?! though i wouldn’t want to be in the same room with you two after you’ve had those. 🙂 you guys would be nonstop. 🙂 haha

  4. Thank you again for sharing in Lauren and Robbie’s “fairytale” wedding! Being in the same space with all you “Dayton” friends is so entertaining(haha)! All that talent and creativity…You all are amazing. Come back to Virginia soon!

  5. Wow! A photographer AND a writer!! I really liked this post. I could picture the scene in my head as I read. I couldn’t agree more…coming home is one of the best feelings in the world. Makes me want to go somewhere just so I can come home again. 🙂

  6. If the “welcome to indianapolis” (or any city you call home) announcement gets you feeling warm and fuzzy, try this: You have been sitting in the cockpit for 3 hours and 45 minutes. It is 1:30am. You have spoken with Cairns Departure, Atlanta Center, Memphis Center, and Indy Center (Air traffic control stations). Finally, as you pass over Bloomington, Indy Center hands you off to Indy Approach. You check in and hear “N136TS, Indy Approach. Descend and maintain 6000, proceed direct Executive Airport. Welcome Home.”

I think the greatest flying music is the chorus of humming engines, broken up by versus of radio transmissions between people I don’t know, and people I will never meet. But on some strange level, we are all connected. We are all bound together by one thing…we love to fly, and we are almost home.

  7. I had one of those wekends too last weekend, except I was walking downtown Zionsville with my fiance on a beautiful, sunny morning sipping a vanilla chai tea from Eagle Creek Coffee. Love those chai’s!! I love it when you just feel so blessed to be here and you just want to take everything in. Glad you had such a great weekend. Can’t wait to see the pics:)

  8. love the comments, everyone….thanks! 🙂

Bobbi….yes, my husband is a pilot! 🙂 love your blog, btw! 😉

  9. I know exactly what you mean about sitting on an airplane and hearing “that song”. I travel a LOT for work, and for me that song is “Where The Streets Have No Name” by U2…

    Take care,
    -Matt-
